Stevia is a small perennial herb of the daisy family native to Paraguay and Brazil and now cultivated in India. It grows 30 to 60 cm tall, with toothed leaves and small white flowers. Its leaves are many times sweeter than sugar, because of the compounds steviol glycosides.

Stevia is not a classical Ayurvedic herb, but it has become popular in Indian herbal products as a natural sweetener that adds no sugar to the diet. The leaf is the part used.
