Careya arborea is a deciduous tree with large leaves that turn red in the cold season and big yellow or white flowers with many stamens. It grows in forests and grasslands throughout India, including Kerala, where it is called pezhu.
In Ayurveda it is known as Kumbhi. The bark and flower have traditionally been used in astringent preparations for skin care and in mouth rinses for oral care.
