Patchouli is a bushy perennial herb of the mint family with soft, velvety leaves and small pink-white flowers. It is native to tropical Southeast Asia and is grown in small amounts in South and Northeast India for its essential oil.
The dried leaf yields a rich, earthy oil that has long been used across southern Asia in incense, perfumes and as a repellent for insects. It is used in traditional Indian aromatic oils and modern Ayurvedic-style skin and body care for its fragrance.
