Caesarweed is a variable, upright shrub of the mallow family found across the tropics, including India, where it grows on wasteland and forest edges. Its stems are covered in fine star-shaped hairs, with lobed leaves, pink flowers and small burr-like fruits that cling to clothing.
In some regions its root is used as a substitute for the classical Ayurvedic herb Atibala, and it appears in folk preparations for joint comfort. The stems also yield a jute-like fibre. The root is used.
