Waltheria indica is a short-lived, softly hairy subshrub of the mallow family that grows to about two metres. Found across the tropics, including dry, disturbed ground in India, it bears small clusters of yellow flowers in the leaf axils and has velvety, toothed leaves.
In regional Indian folk practice the root has been used much like the classical bala herbs, in oils and preparations meant to support joint comfort. It is a minor folk herb rather than a major classical drug, and its root is the part used.
