Bada gokhru is a succulent, branching annual herb with fleshy leaves, yellow flowers and hard, four-angled fruits bearing short spines. It grows in sandy coastal and dry areas of India, Africa and Southeast Asia, and the fresh plant gives a slimy mucilage when stirred in water.
In Ayurveda it is known as Brihat Gokshura and is used much like the smaller gokshura (Tribulus). The fruit has traditionally been used in preparations for general wellness and urinary comfort.
