Key lime is a small, thorny citrus tree with fragrant white flowers and small, round fruits with thin rind and very sour, aromatic juice. It is a natural hybrid and is grown in home gardens throughout India, including Kerala.
Known in Sanskrit as Nimbuka, the fruit and peel are used in Ayurveda and Indian kitchens for digestive comfort. Lime juice and peel are also traditional ingredients in skin-brightening packs and natural cleansers.
