The mango tree is a large evergreen of the cashew family that can grow 30 metres tall, with dense foliage and sweet, fragrant fruits. It is native to India and grows throughout the country, including Kerala, where it is called mavu.
Known in Sanskrit as Amra, the leaf, bark and seed kernel are used in Ayurveda. The leaves are traditionally used in mouth care, and the astringent seed kernel and bark in preparations for digestive comfort.
