Monkey jack is a deciduous tree of the mulberry family with large leaves and irregular, yellowish, sweet-sour fruits. It is distributed across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, especially in the sub-Himalayan region and northeast India.
Known in Sanskrit as Lakucha, its fruit and bark have a place in classical Ayurveda. They are traditionally used in preparations for digestive comfort and in skin-care pastes, and the fruit is eaten fresh and in chutneys.
