Phalsa is a shrub or small tree of the mallow family native to South Asia, growing up to eight metres and widely cultivated in northern India for its fruit. It has broad, rounded leaves, yellow flowers and small, round berries that turn dark purple when ripe.

Known as Parushaka in Sanskrit, the tangy fruit is enjoyed fresh and as a cooling summer drink, and is described in Ayurveda as a cooling fruit that supports digestion and general wellbeing. The fruit is used.
