Poisonous without classical processing — not offered — Raw tuber contains cyanogenic glycosides
Tapioca, or cassava, is a woody shrub of the spurge family grown for its large, starchy tuberous roots. Native to South America, it is a staple crop in Kerala, where it is called kappa, and it thrives in poor soil.
The cooked tuber is a staple food and has been used in household diets for general wellness. The raw tuber is poisonous; it is used only after classical purification under qualified supervision, and must be properly prepared.
