Trivrit, or turpeth, is a robust, hairy perennial vine of the morning glory family that can climb several metres. It grows wild in parts of India and across tropical Asia, Africa and northern Australia, with variable heart-shaped leaves and white funnel-shaped flowers.
Its root is the part used in Ayurveda. Classical texts describe it as a strong purgative herb, and it is traditionally included in cleansing preparations for the digestive system. It is always used within established formulations rather than on its own.
