Sweet marjoram is a cold-sensitive perennial herb or undershrub of the mint family, native to the eastern Mediterranean and grown in Indian gardens. It has small, soft, grey-green oval leaves and knot-like clusters of white or pink flowers, with a sweet, pine and citrus aroma.
Known as Maruvaka, its fragrant leaves are used in Indian temple offerings and in traditional aromatic preparations, and in folk practice to support digestion. The leaf is the part used.
