Champak is a large evergreen tree of the magnolia family with long glossy leaves and richly fragrant yellow to orange flowers. It grows in the forests of the Western Ghats and the Himalayan foothills and is planted near temples throughout India.

Known as Champaka in Sanskrit, its flowers are treasured in traditional perfumery and in Ayurvedic aromatic oils for skin and hair. The bark is also mentioned in classical texts. Champak blossoms are a classic ingredient in Indian attars.
